Incineration saves a lot of money on transport of waste to landfills and as a result reduces the carbon footprint for that part of the process. The end product of an incinerator is bottom ah (3-10%) which is at worse 90% less waste ending up in landfill.
Incineration also eliminates the problem of leachate that is produced by landfills. Current landfill sites can be mined out and the landfill material used as fuel.
Landfills are unsightly, smelly and take up vast areas of land, they also give rise to a lot of vermin and insects. Waste to Energy (WTE) incinerators can produce electricity which in the long run can help to reduce costs. On average you would expect to get about 500 to 600 kWh of electrical energy per ton of waste incinerated. Alternatively you can use the heat from incinerators for heating of offices and houses in locations near the plant.
